Frequently asked questions
General
You're floating in a super-saturated solution of water and Epsom salt (magnesium sulfate) heated to skin temperature — about 93°F. The high salt concentration (over 1,000 lbs in each tank) makes you naturally buoyant, so your entire body is supported without any effort. With the lights and sound off, your brain enters a deep theta-wave state — the same frequency associated with meditation, deep sleep, and creative insight. Most people describe it as the deepest rest they've felt in years.
Yes. The tanks are spacious (not coffin-sized), and you're in complete control — the door stays open until you're ready, and you can exit anytime. Many people with claustrophobia actually find floating to be therapeutic because you're not confined; you're supported and weightless. The quiet, darkness, and weightlessness often feel expansive, not cramped. If you're very nervous, start with a 30-minute session or call us before booking to talk through it — we get this question often and have had great success with anxious first-timers.
Absolutely. This is non-negotiable for us. Every tank is filtered through 1-micron filtration (finer than most hospital systems) and treated with UV ozone purification between every single guest. The high salt concentration itself creates an inhospitable environment for bacteria. We follow strict sanitation protocols, and our tanks meet or exceed health department standards. You'll also shower before and after your float, so you're not floating in anyone else's residue — just clean, sterile salt solution.
Bring nothing into the float tank — you'll float naked or in minimal swimwear (your choice). We provide everything: clean towels, a private shower, and toiletries (shampoo, body wash, lotion). Wear comfortable clothes to the facility and change in your private changing room. Leave your phone and valuables in your locker. Tip: avoid heavy perfumes, lotions, or makeup the day of your float; the salt and skin contact mean any product will intensify.
Yes, floating is often recommended during pregnancy. The weightlessness is incredible for your back and joints during a time when they're carrying extra load. Many pregnant people report deep relaxation and relief from aches. That said, check with your OB-GYN first, especially if you have any complications. We'll note your pregnancy during check-in so our team can offer extra support if needed.
The salt water is actually therapeutic for many skin conditions, but if you have open cuts, fresh tattoos, or severe skin sensitivities, let us know at check-in. Fresh tattoos (less than 2 weeks old) are best avoided because the salt can irritate healing ink. If you have eczema or psoriasis, the salt often helps, but again, mention it when you book so we can advise. Any concerns, call ahead — we're here to make sure you have a safe, comfortable float.
No problem. Long hair does get salty, but you'll shower thoroughly after (we provide shampoo). Many people tie their hair up or wear a waterproof cap if they prefer. Beards: the salt won't damage your beard, and you rinse it out completely in the post-float shower. Some people find the salt actually softens facial hair. Just rinse well afterward.
Ideally, float on a light stomach. We recommend eating a small, light meal 1–2 hours before your float, or waiting 2–3 hours after a large meal. A full stomach can create mild discomfort during floating. Light snacks (fruit, yogurt, toast) are fine 30 minutes before. After your float, many people feel more aware of hunger, so we have healthy snacks and water available in our post-float relaxation area.
Yes, it's very normal — and wonderful. Many people doze off during a float, especially if they're sleep-deprived. You won't "drown" because the salt keeps you buoyant even if completely relaxed. Some people sleep deeply for 20 minutes, then their brain naturally re-engages. If you're worried about oversleeping, don't be — we'll gently let you know when your time is up. The sleep you get in a float is often deeper and more restorative than regular sleep.
Both offer the same float experience and sanitation standard. The Kailua Commercial Suite is our energetic, accessible location — walk-ins welcome, perfect after a workout, commercial hours, and a professional vibe. The Oasis Sanctuary is ultra-private and appointment-only, nestled in a residential setting with extended off-peak hours, ideal for people seeking a deeper, unhurried escape. Choose based on your vibe — both are equally excellent.
It depends on your goals and lifestyle. Athletes often float 1–2 times per week for recovery. Busy professionals find 2–3 times monthly transformative. Some people float weekly for mental health support. There's no "wrong" frequency — start with one float and see how you feel. Many people naturally find their rhythm. Our membership tiers are designed to fit different commitments, and you can always adjust.
Membership pricing and terms are detailed on our Locations & Pricing page, but the gist: memberships give you per-float savings vs. drop-in rates, and auto-pay convenience. You can cancel anytime with free cancellation up to 24 hours before your scheduled session — no penalties, no questions asked. If life gets in the way, we get it. Your membership pauses if you need a break; you don't lose your plan.
Booking happens right here on our site using our secure HelmBot booking system. You choose your location (Kailua or Oasis), select a time, and complete your payment. You'll receive a confirmation email with your appointment details, parking info, and a digital waiver link. You'll complete the waiver before arriving (takes 2 minutes). Then just show up a few minutes early, check in with our team, and get ready to float. It's that simple.
